Of course!  To give you an example of this, for our local club we have
gsas-announce and gsas-member.  The former list is for announcements only,
and the latter is for general chat.  Though few people really partake of
the "chat" list, the announcement list is OFTEN used.  We don't do any
sort of checking to make sure people really are members (that would take
too much work, and in reality we get info to more people this way).  I
would be delighted to set up a similar pair of mailing lists for the AGA.
