I thought I already forwarded this to the SC last week, but since I got no replies, perhaps I should ask again. Are we still going to wait another month for the "mailing problem" to be sorted out before replying to Dave? (See message at the bottom of my note here) On another note, I have an idea for the TAG problem. Just to think about. You're all going to laugh at me, but I wonder if we should reconsider using PAM as the AGA's magazine. Back nearly 2 years when we rejected the idea, some of the reasons (much of which emminated from me) included "We should give Mary a chance", "What exactly IS the AGA without TAG anyway?", "TAG and PAM have different focus", and the ubiquotous "Dave's hard to deal with" & "he doesn't have the AGA's interest at heart". OK, so in the intervening time what has happened? We HAVE given Mary a chance, and IMO she's blown it several times over. We've started to find ways in which to branch out the AGA from TAG, we've seen that TAG and PAM do indeed have very similar focus (and in fact have had scuffles over the same article appearing in both). Mary's shown herself to be an even worse person to deal with than Dave, and Dave has (in Karen's words) bent over backwards to help the AGA as part of the hobby in several occasions. (This shouldn't necessarily enter into any discussion from the AGA side, but over at PAM, Dave is having at least some trouble with subscriber base.) OK, what are the remaining downsides? To me, the remaining one is having a certain degree of say in the non-article material, i.e. the "AGA Biz" section. I would suggest the AGA need at least one 2 or 4-page spread per issue to cover news and such, but occasionally might need more (for instance, special inserts for the aquascaping contest, or a spread for the results). It would still be tough dealing with Dave on a regular basis. I know Dorothy and Merrill both have a hard time with this. - Erik -- Erik Olson erik at thekrib dot com ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 18:33:45 -0700 From: Dave Gomberg <gomberg@wcf.com> To: Erik Olson <erik@thekrib.com> Subject: Which issue? Decision time is coming up for the quantity of PAM 7 with Booth's discus tanks article to print. We either ship PAM 7 to AGA members or we don't. If we don't I will order a smaller number, if we do, I will order a larger number. I need to know which, and soon. Wanna ask the board if they just want to do it? Or wait it out? I can use PAM 8 but I don't think it will be as pretty as PAM 7. -- Dave Gomberg, San Francisco gomberg at wcf dot com NEW Planted Aquaria Magazine: http://www.wcf.com/pam ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ To unsubscribe from this list, e-mail majordomo@thekrib.com with "unsubscribe aga-sc" in the body of the message.
