Sigh... Dave wants to deal

Dave now wants to know if the AGA would like to trade PAM back issues for
AGA memberships for existing PAM hostag...err...subscribers.  He is
proposing 3 months AGA membership for each back issue. 

What do you all think of this?  At first glance, seems like it might be a
good trade, but part of me wonders if it's fair.  I worked some quick
numbers on this and conclude that it will literally cost the AGA $2.50 per
back copy (see end of message for details), or around $4700 taken out of
our treasury over the next three years.

I have asked if he plans on also sending the back issues to his
subscribers by way of apology.  IMHO this makes a big difference.  If he
does send the back issues AND makes the deal with us, this may placate the
subscribers; some may even feel they've gotten a little "bonus" with the
AGA memberships. If he just makes the deal with AGA and sends the
subscribers nothing, then the subscribers may feel cheated, it makes it
seem like it's the AGA's problem now and that we're taking on the full
liability of angry members.

Numbers (thinking on-screen):

PAM subscribers: 330, about 150 are also AGA members.
Number of owed copies of PAM: 1900.  This averages to about 6 copies per
subscriber, or a year and a half.

For those 150 AGA members, we'd be essentially losing income from them for
a year and a half = 150 x 1.5 x $15 = $3400 in lost revenue.

For the remaining 170 subscribers, it's less, because we just have to pay
the extra for mailing TAG to them (printing cost for more copies is
essentially nothing). Let's say about $5 per year?  Extra cost to AGA =
170 x 1.5 x $5 = $1300.

So in total, we'd essentially be paying about $4700 for 1900 copies of
PAM, or $2.47 per copy, plus getting the extra 170 new members (and
whatever squabbles are associated with them).
