Karen, Thanks for the status report on TAG. Hope you can resolve the final hassles and get back to more interesting stuff. >I look forward to your input. I am not sure what input you are requesting. I read this mail and the attachment provided by the USPS. The question is, do we >really want to deal with the hassle? If this is the question, I have no way of answering before I have more information. e.g. What are the alternatives to "periodical rate"? - what did Mary use for 1st class postage? - is there something for non-profit organizations that similar or even better than "periodical rate" - what, if anything, does the printer provide? that will eliminate the AGA hassle? >The steering committee as a group has to make these financial decisions. - for each of the above alternatives, what are the differences in the per issue or annual cost? >I've put as much time and effort into the advertising thing as I can, and >it's not working. I can't do that piece and work on the magazine too. >Likewise, on the postage, is everyone willing to do what it takes to get all >the information from 3 different locations (me as editor, Jack as >membership, and David as treasurer) together annually for a postal audit? I read the USPS piece and it sounds alot like a lot of govt requirements. The real question is what is the minimum paperwork that they will accept to honor whatever they are giving AGA. I think that the membership list and copy of an old TAG "may" be sufficient. It may be like an IRS audit. Record keeping is needed for an audit, but there are many ways this can be done. i.e. "adopt a method of bookkeeping that is available for postal inspection that clearly shows that payment or promises to pay have been made by the persons the publishers claim as subscribers to their publications." And not everyone will get audited by the the USPS. Regards, Neil ------------------ To unsubscribe from this list, e-mail majordomo@thekrib.com with "unsubscribe aga-sc" in the body of the message.
