OK. I just talked to Step Direct. Here's the scoop. The issue is that this is not like billing for services. This is postage money, which they would have to front for the customers. (and obviously are not willing to do) They said most of their bigger clients keep a balance on account with them in escrow, and draw down on it as needed. They get a full invoice each time, showing what the cost was, as well as their remaining balance. (sort of like getting your postage meter filled at the P.O... They actually have a P.O. office within their facility) I explained that we were not a "big company" but a little non-profit organization, and asked for suggestions. He said we could use PayPal, but would need to also pay the 3% extra that PayPal skims off the top. The alternative that made the most sense to me was that he suggested that when the mag. file goes to Amprint, and the mailing list file goes to them, we call and request an approximate cost. We can then send them a check for that amount, to be adjusted if necessary when the actual mailing is done. They said they can estimate it pretty close as long as they know the weight, and that Amprint could call them with that. (I also told him that at this point, we are sticking to 40 pages, so the weight shouldn't vary from one issue to the next) This sounded reasonable to me. What about the rest of you? But I still think it might be time for AGA to have a credit card anyway, BEFORE we run into convention issues. Karen Karen A.
