Dallas Update & Request

Hi folks,

Just got off the phone with Larry Lampert, who is organizing the hopeful
bid of the Dallas-Ft. Worth club for AGA 2003. They are very gung ho for
this, and in my opinion, they have their heads screwred on correctly (way
too much details to include in this e-mail)! Larry has been negotiating
with a hotel for rates (banquet, meeting rooms, and rooms) & is getting a
good deal together. They are looking to have a local collecting trip with
a local nature center. They are lining up a couple local speakers, but
will need keynote and national speaker arrangements from us.

QUESTION 1: Karen, do we have contacts for Kasselmann? Could we get her
for November 8th?

QUESTION 2: As an alternative, Larry is curious about bring Amano back
again. Feasible?

QUESTION 3: Other speakers. Ideas? He would like to have Dorothy speak,
but other suggestions were folks who have already spoken: (Neil, Paul K,
Greg Morin).

They are a club without much in the way of finances, but they are also
wanting to do this as a favor to the AGA, not as a money-making venture.
As such, the AGA will have to pony up any advances, and eat any financial
losses. Larry realizes this, and wants to work real closely to insure
they're running the convention that "the aga" wants. Personally, I think
with the approach he's taking, they will do quite well. In talking about
incentives for the DFW folks, he noted that they will benefit indirectly
because the club will get the "donator" side of the splits in the auctions
for items donated from/by the DFW club. We also talked about maybe having
the DFW club share in the profits only if the AGA makes back $1000, and
then only above the $1000. He pulled that number based on it being how
much we lost last year. Curious what you guys think.

QUESTION 4: Does it seem reasonable to have DFW run this convention
based on only their reputation, sweat equity, and careful reporting to
  the AGA board?

If you want more details, perhaps call me tonight at home (206) 789-5840.
You probably never thought you'd hear me say this, but it's way too much
information to try and write up in e-mail right now.
