Re: AGA Forums (fwd) One forum for all and all for, um, one?

Phil Edwards is on a lot of forums. I think he's moderator on an AB forum and I've seen him on a discus site, too. Wonder what he knows?

Forums are okay. I don't mind using them, but I forget to go back and check them. Then if I have something to say, well it's too late because it's been three weeks and now I'm lame-o.

About half of us know that DFWAPC has started their own forum for members only. It's slow to start, but we'll see. People like being able to post pictures, I think.

I figure what the heck. If it lights, it lights. If not, what have we lost?

That thought crossed my mind too.

OTOH, how many members would we have to gain to make it worthwhile? Is it
worth giving it a try, considering that we KNOW we really NEED to increase
our membership base? What if we did something like leave it open to
everyone for the first year, and THEN close off an area that is just for
members? that might give people an added incentive to join.

And while I'm thinking about it, maybe some of us more experienced people
(and that DEFINITELY includes you, Scott ;-) would be willing to moderate or
be "guest experts" in sections specifically because it IS a way to help the
AGA grow? I'd be willing to do that. If a group of people each took one
section, it reallywouldn't be very much work. I bet Luis or Ghazanfar would
love to run the aquascaping section, for instance. We could ask George if
he'd be willing to run a "high tech" area, at least for a while. I think
he's warming up to the AGA again, and we might as well strike while the iron
is hot.<g>

I don't care for forums personally as a rule, but they ARE popular with many
people, and are easier to use then a mailing list for the uninitiated... and
probably for those who are newer to the internet than some of us. This
might also be a really good way of finding some more people who are
interested in being "worker bees" for the AGA, but don't want to get in too
deep right away.

I don't know. Maybe because it's a new day, but I feel more positive toward
this today than I did yesterday. You can all tell me to get back in bed if
you want, but I haven't even taken any drugs today!<g>

Another thought. If the AGA masthead would be such a draw,
then why isn't the AGA mailist bigger and busier? I'm not
complaining, just espressing further doubt about the power
of the name.
