Re: (duh)

I sat next to him at the banquet. Didn't form any negative impression, but we didn't talk *that* much.

His hands were shaking at the auction and I asked him if he was alright. He said he has naturally high blood pressure. That made more of an impression on me than anything he said at the banquet.

I did. He talked my ear off. He's very proud of himself, even before the
awards announcement. I think he'd be competent, but he really
overcompensates for being a relative newbie. Keep in mind also that he
joined the AGA in August.

I will forward his responses now. Brace for impact.

PS: Good responses to the Vicki decision on the AB forum so far. It's going to be fine.

I have to "duh" myself here. I should have done this

from the start... I

got a reply from James H regarding the forum issue, and

was a little taken

aback by some "brazen" statements (which I'll share

with you guys later),

and wanted to do a little character background

checking. Was thinking I'd

e-mail Roger or Ghazanfar or Phil Edwards to get an

idea, but decided to

check myself first. So I popped over to the

Aquabotanic forums see what's

up. But while there, I found the thread about Vicki

Costley's car wreck.

Karen, you were dead on in your hunch. During an

incredible outpouring of

grief in late October, they collected several hundred

dollars, from around

a dozen people, in about a week. This was spent on a

wreath at the

funeral, but there was quite a bit left over and it

appears that they

didn't know what to do with it. Someone suggested

donating to a

conservation fund. Then someone said "I know! Let's

ask the AGA to

administer an award in her name!" And about 2 people

said "yeah, great

idea!" So I think our reply was dead-on for this.

The good and bad news is, of course, that our reply was

forwarded and

posted there. Bad in that people may be pissed off.

But good in that at

least they'll be pissed off by our actual words rather

than someone's

retelling.

I'm going to take a break and hear David's input from

the legal chat

before I get back to the "forums" discussion. Too many

issues packed in

too tightly this week.

PS: Third prize winner requested "Aquarium Plants

Handbook". Yay!
