It's understandable that they are discouraged. They have put a lot of 
effort into this, received encouraging signals, and now they have been 
slapped back. However, from our perspective, they are pretty far ahead 
of the game date-wise. This time last year we were pretty sure we 
wanted to have a convention, right? :-)

I'm not imagining that some representative of the Sheraton told them 
that everything looked great, and it was just a matter of getting the 
boss's rubber stamp? (I know I'm paraphrasing here.) Now this. It 
seems to me that they don't want to be working with people like that 
anyhow. Better to find out now than on banquet night!
