Scott - I think you need to impress on them that for this convention to work, at the prices we are going to have to charge to hold it in the DC area, we need to do EVERYTHING we can to ptomote attendance. Ray will play a key part in that. I think that part of the problem is that a lot of the "plant club" people may not be very involved with or knowledgeable about the organized hobby. Sort of the way the reef people don't mix in that much. This is exactly why we've never split off a local "plant club" from the BAS. There are good synergistic reasons for maintaining strong ties to the organized, general aquarium hobby organizations. We NEED participation from the more casual plant keepers who are the heart of the organized hobby, and Ray gives us our best shot of getting those folks involved. As far as the number of tables is concerned, Ray used a smaller (but still nice) display in Raleigh, just because he didn't want to drive his trailer all that way in the snow. So if absolutely necessary, we could ask him to use that one. I'm sure it would be easier on him, and I doubt he'd object. But it doesn't have the huge visual impact of the big display. One more thing that might help change their mindes... Ray just bought a digital projector, and he's offering it to clubs where he sets up his display for $25 per day, just enough to help him cover bulb replacement costs. (which are steep) I don't think they will come CLOSE to touching that price, and he'll bring it with him. It's a nice unit. I used it this weekend, and the pictures were sharp and the color good.
