Well, I almost hate to comment because it is just pure speculation but here is
my guess
as to the effect of a higher cost on attendance:

$35 80%
$40 78%
$45 70%
$50 60%

Also you will have to make it clear that if you do not attend the banquet, you
do not get to hear the banquet speaker. I am assuming Amano will talk at the
banquet also.

Regards,
Larry

Yes Cheryl. I forgot about nonregistered spouses attending
only the Banq but not other events. Actually I remembered
last night after I went to bed but didn't feel like getting
up to run more scenarios just then.

We're talking about what Banq fee it might be best to
charge folks. I suggested considering a lower than $50 fee
to convention attendees, regardless of the fee the Hotel
charges us, and covering the diff with Convention revenues.
I'm copying Rick, Ghazanfar & Larry because I think
everyone needs to be in on this fine tuning exercise. Also,
it will help save time.

I think with the Banq fee at $35 (or $40), we can
reasonably assume for budgeting purposes a Banq attendance
at 80% of Registration -- that assumption worked well last
year. That's the attendance rate I've been using for the
different hotels offers so far because that's what we used
in the budget.

However, as others have pointed out, if the Banq is higher
than $35-$40, then the attendance rate assumption probably
needs to be lower to be realistic. I am assuming we have
given up on the unspoken idea that was on everyone's mind
for boosting Banq attandance: Having Erik and Kathy do
rendition of "And Baby Makes Three."

Even if the total cost of Reg and Banq is $100 or less, a
$50 Banq fee will discourage Banq sales. Demand elasticity
(some folks are willing and able to pay more than others)
is very hard to guess but if we assume 80% at $35, wouldn't
70% be a reasonable assumption for $50? I haven't done a
sensitivity analysis to see how much of a diff this makes
in the results. I'll do that later this afternoon.

Part of the marketing strategy GWAPA is considering is to
have discounted early reg rates. I haven't tried to combine
stepped Reg Fee rates with stepped Banq Fee rates -- one
price for registrants and a higher price for unregistered
spouses. So let me also try some more secenarios doing that
-- I can do that later this afternoon. I think that for
diff Banq rates the attendance assumptions should be:

$35 80%
$40 78%
$45 75%
$50 70%

Comments????
