Re: [AGA SC] Membership Committee Initiatives

Good question.

I'll get with the mailer for an "average multi" which I think would be indicative of these costs.

However, I think that if we offer the Group Discount and Premium Club program to a select few clubs at first, that would give us time to evaluate costs and change the program if necessary.

A little late in reading the entire proposal. I like all these, and wold vote "yes" down the line. My one caveat is that I would like to know that these discounts are not going to kill us. The "refer-a-friend" special is cool, since it's a time-limited thing. But the group rates I just want to be sure are OK. Does the postage go down accordingly? I only ask because we learned last year that we were actually losing money on some of the bookstore items... just want to leave no stone unturned here.

EXCELLENT proposal, and something I bet gets us over 1000 by the end of the year.

Okay, enough keeping you all in suspense. They aren't *that* special! We all had a lot of great ideas and I had to stick with the ones that I thought *I* could implement, this year sometime, without much trouble.

Attached is the long version, with specific details, to read at your leisure, but please do read it.

Here is the short version: I am making separate five separate motions for initiatives 2A&B - 5. Initiative #1 has already been implemented and was trivial enough not to require a formal vote.

1. Starting April 1st, I will initiate a continuing series of timely announcements to the AGA-member or –announce list. The next announcement will be 2A.

2. Encourage individuals to recruit new members. Emphasis will be on encouraging members to help the AGA, but with perks.

A. Membership Drive
From May 1st - August 31, 2004, for every new member who cites a current member’s name and location in the “more info” field of the online or mail-in application, AGA will extend the current member’s membership by one issue.

B. Permanent Offer of Membership Incentive
If a current AGA member hosts an open house or a local club meeting, AGA will send promotional materials and sample back issues as give-aways. If at least four people sign up, the current member gets a free t-shirt.

3. Group Discounts
As immediately as possible, implement a provision for Group Discounts. This is a simple group discount policy for anyone who wants more than 1 issue of TAG sent to the same address.

4. Premium Club Program (or whatever—needs a snazzier name)
For a $200 annual fee, a Premium Club will receive the many great benefits.

5. Pet Store Incentives
This was David Lass’s idea: that for every four (this # was my idea) members a store brings in, the store would get one free membership to give to its employees or whatever.

Many thanks to Neil and Phil, and for Scott's, Larry's, and Tim's input.
