Re: [AGA-sc] Treasurer's Report 1st 6 months 2004 (more or less) --v1.2

Having only a vague notion of what "cost center" must mean, here are my thoughts:

1. Great report. Sure does look like a lot of work and I appreciate that. I especially appreciate that I didn't have to do it. :-)

2. I agree that the Membership/TAG thing is sticky. I have always thought of them as separate but related things. After all, I pay a similar annual dues to DFWAPC and don't receive any publication. So I think it's justified to separate them.

For example, the cost of producing TAG could be a TAG expense. The cost of mailing TAG could be a Membership expense. If we (and by this I mean you, not me--ack) figure out the percentages and then apply those percentages to the Membership income, we can figure out roughly what percentage of our Membership income is TAG-related and what percentage is organization-related.

Further, the cost of mailing a new TAG could be differentiated from the cost of replacing lost TAGs--a number which recently I have become very interested in. :-( What percentage of our Membership income is being used to replace lost TAGs because the stupid mailer can't seem to understand plain English when it is said on the phone, spoken to her face, left on answering machine messages, and e-mailed repeatedly?

sorry. Whew!

Let me add this clarification of what's grouped in the
report:

I took any membership transactions and allocated them to
Memberships. I could have split up the combos based on some
percentage of revenues, but it would have been a lot of
work and it didn't seem worthwhile when I wasn't yet
decided on what should or should not be profit/cost
centers.
I took any mailing charges related to TAGs (and presumably
memberships since I didn't have any consistent way to
distinguish the two) and allocated them to TAGs. I.e., I
did not treat Memberships as a cost center.

How are we differentiating "TAG" expenses
