[AGA-sc] Fw: Aquatic Gardener's Association meeting 2005

Hmmm. I just got a call from Dave Gomberg. Guess he got wind that Tom was
going to make a bid for the AGA convention.<g>

He said he agrees with Tom that Monterey would be an idea area to hold the
convention, but he expressed some serious concerns that Tom would have the
organizational abilities to follow through with it. His biggest concern is
that Tom will assign jobs to specific people who have not committed in their
own minds, and in the process REALLY turn them off.

He suggested, and it sounded like a pretty good idea to me, that we actually
ask the organization submitting a bid to not only designate people to handle
specific jobs, but also ask for letters of intent from those folks. Things
can alway go wrong, causing people to have to back out, but at least we will
have their committment to the project up-front.

Dave said that he has had a fair amount of experience working hotel deals,
so he is very willing to work that part himself. He thinks, if there really
ARE enough people in the area to do the job, that it might be very possible
to get Tom to take over the field trip portion, and let less
organizationally-challenged people take the lead role of chairing the
convention.

He asked if we could send him a copy of the bid document too. I said we
were having a little formatting problem, but that as soon as that was
solved, I'd ask Scott to shoot him a copy too.

Karen
