Well, that means we have a problem already, doesn't it?

Naw, it just means that chewing out Dave and Skids is not going to make the folks on that list feel any less animousity towards the AGA. I think that most of the people working on the convention are good people, and most of the remaining people are "mostly good" people.

Also, the Old Marines Home deal included meals, iirc -- but
absolutely, you can't tell how much your shopping cart
costs until you price out all the items in it. I tried to
say that in a very nice and polite way on the Conheads
list.

Thanks for that post -- it was very much appropriate and to the point.

Cheryl is right that Dave has a very selective memory on these things. We all do. We just have a nice archive.

Thing is, we didn't reject Dave's bid, as there WAS NO BID. As far as I know, the Old Marines Home seemed pretty good. Last I remember, Dave was saying something about a weekend the first week in January or something nearly as ridiculous, and all discussion vaporized. I think he's directing his anger at SFBAAPS, which is also something no good can come of. Hopefully they're all used to him and will just ignore him.

The Proposal Requirements and Guidelines document says
this:

"Only proposals received no later than 9 months prior to
the proposed start date of the Convention will be
considered. We recommended that a draft proposal, including
at least the names of the committee heads, anticipated
location and date, and possible speakers, be submitted not
later than 12 months before the proposed Convention start
date."

I think that for next year (2007) we should change the language to either REQUIRE a draft November 1st of the previous year, with a preliminary hotel contract.

Just look at how Michael and SFBAAPS have interpreted our request for a draft... as though it's optional, and they don't need to submit anything until February 10th (or 18th). No way. We need to know in November if this club is going to deliver.

It's too late to do it for this year, but I really think we should fix up the docs as soon as the SFBAAPS thing is finalized (or not).

Comments? Additions? Counter-proposal?

PS: Larry, thanks for volunteering to help in the negotiation!
