The problem is that the budget doesn't allow for all four speakers to be paid for, only one or two. So we might get two guys from overseas paid, but only one if they required a translator (like Amano).
Yes, that makes things very tough! Dave has neat photos, natural habitat eye candy and less in the scaping area. And he's new and different. And he'll bring several new species:)
You know, Wim was actually my favorite speaker in 2001 as well. Very much underappreciated with all the Amano-mania, but I found it a nice contrast. I wonder where he is nowadays.
He was up in the Chicago area, ask Karen or whoever got him, he knows scaping and he knows physiology. You might consider getting him back.
Know anyone local who does photography of aquascapes? Not like the usual "stick a camera on a tripod and take the picture" types, but someone who's spent some time to compose, maybe knows how to use flash units, etc?
Erik, and a few other members are good. Myself as well. I use flashes and have a series of colored background sheets I am now using now. I'm trying not to over do Erik though, I'm not sure, with all the new folks, we are bound to have someone.
Someone who's entered Amano's contest or taken shots of tanks who did?
Oh, well now you are talking, there are several folks.
We were thinking of having someone like that, perhaps Jeff Senske, do a photo workshop live (rather than the usual talk where everyone falls asleep watching powerpoint slides doling out the technical advice).
Yes, those are boring after the first 3-4:) You learn by doing, not as a passive participant. We
could have some actual tanks set up for this purpose.
And we shall. We could set up the scaping like American idol, we even have Jeff Kropp, the Simon of the group:) Regards, Tom Barr

I'm afraid Claus is out, Wim isstillmy favorite speaker thus far. Well, besides you:) I think it's wise to have the AGA do this from here on, the potential for miscommunication is greatly reduced. Then youknowwhat and when and can plan this. The simpler the better. Our club has grown rapidly due to this simpler method. Interestingly, we might hit 200 members at some point in the next few months at this rate. Not bad for a local plant club. Anyhow, kick some names around the hat. We have a number of members that can do various talks. Erik Leung would be good for scaping. So would Luis Navarro. You might russle them into the fray to give atalk/demostrationfor new and old timers. Thing is, seeing someone do a nice scape inspires those that have been sitting on the pot too long to give a new scape atry.Roland owns www.GreenChapter.com Rare plant vendor in Singapore. He gets some crazy Crypts, one of which I've been after for nearly 25 years. It'll be coming in a week or 2. Folk's off the beaten path......well, there are some inFL(MikeKane, he does lots of ornamental aquatic plant tissueculture,we might resurrect George Booth:) Rhonda Wilson perhaps, she has been big on more relaxed nonCO2methods, my self, I'll take whatever anyone else don't want. The plant auction will be scary here though. We have so many plants locally these days and it seems wesimplyhave so many plant growers here, the variety at the swaps is simply staggering sometimes. Jim is a super nice guy, Mike is also, but comes off hotheadedon email. But I don't know anyone like that now do I? haha Hope this helps, Tom Barr You might ask Jan about Dutch folks also. --- Erik Olson <erik@thekrib.com> wrote:I'm more interested in local folks that are off the beaten path for some of the other talks (which is why I e-mailed you -- you know some people that you don't find on Forums or in aquatic plant clubs). Who's Rolan? I'm out of the loop in the hobby these days! I have no doubt we'll get good attendence by members...justwished we'd have a few more of them eager to do actual work. Oh well. We've learned our lesson, and starting in 2007 all AGA conventions aregoingto be AGA-organized. - Erik On Thu, 9 Feb 2006, Thomas Barr wrote:Hi, I offered to do it and sent the space cadets the list. Jeese...... I'll see if I might dig it up. Main thing is getting folks that will cause folks to cometothemeeting. I really liked Wim's talk, he'd be good. Claus is good, Dave Wilson from Oz has a lot of niceAustralianplant pics. Thiongs we have only recently seen, he has anurserythere and collects and has many pics of new stuff. There are not a lot of new folks out there that will drawfolks.Dennerle/Windlov perhaps, not sure though....... Rolan from SG might be an idea also, he has a lot ofCryptsandother rare plants/pics. I'm not sure about politics, but I had no issue giving the steering committee post to Bill H. I've done a great dealinthelast 2 years to get the club going again, so have others,Billredid the web site which was key, I brought in many newmembers.Just means I can do a different job someone will not wantorcannot do. We nabbed another dozen new folks for the SFBAAPS clubthislastmonth and 1/2. I'll hunt the list down and see if I have it archived somewheres. Tom Barr --- Erik Olson <erik@thekrib.com> wrote:I was looking for info on convention speakers. Summary: SFBAAPS doesn't have a volunteer to work on coordination, so AGA is goingtodo it instead. Remembered you sent a nice list of proposedlocalspeakers, wondering what happened and if you'd have a little timetotalk about ideas. That's all! - Erik On Thu, 9 Feb 2006, Thomas Barr wrote:Errr.......maybe it got buried or something?
