RE Wim. Thanks, I'll try to get a chance to look at Wim tonight, after I
finish resending more of those darn checks to asia. Does everyone in Asia
use aphony name when dealing with the USA. However good he is, the name
doesn't sound like a draw.
But I think it was largely poor positioning. In less headdy company, he
would have compared VERY favorably. But he was up against Amano, on his
FIRST U.S. appearance. I don't have his contact info though, Charlene
booked him. I suspect that John Glaeser could help us track him down,
though... I _think_ he may have been the initial contact for him anyway.
Speaking of which, what about John? Most people know his name, he's
probably coming anyway, he does AWESOME tanks, started the Madison Wisconsin
group, has backed AGA for years, and as a retired college professor, I'm
sure he can speak coherently.<g>
RE Tom speak. How can anybody still think that? Is he that out of touch?
Was that a rhetorical question, or do you need me to answer ;-)
RE wrokshops: Workshops take two - two and a half hours doing all four
twice. Isn't that how we did it in Vriginia? I understand how that
workships are not a part of SF's schedule. But I'm wondering if that's a
mistake because I'm personally wondering if 4 speakers is worth the
$500-$1,000 that this weekeknd is going to cost me. I mean, I'm looking
for a reason to lay out that kind of money for a weekend and 4 speakers
won't do it for me (well, unless they are just the right speakers).
You don't even necessarily have to do workshops twice. At NEC, they make us
make choices. I know it's hard, but...<g> At Dallas, if I remember
correctly, a few were repeated, but not all. But I agree, if there were
only 4 speakers, and I was not going mostly to shmooze with my friends, I'd
think long and hard unless every single speaker was top-notch.
RE Boring Photo talks: When Cameron did his Dallas workshop/presentation
on photog/editing, folks were not bored. As I recall, it wasn't for
everyone but there were a fair amount of attendees and they loved it.
I thought it was great.
I read Tom's volunteering for the position and thouhgt, "Oh great, we can
have the Tom and Jay Comedy Hour". (except I'm not sure it would be that
funny either)
What if we have TB do a workshop like "Point-counterpoint" with TB doing
both parts.
We already did that in Chattanooga. The best thing in his talk was his tip
to "comb your hairgrass". 'Course, maybe I'm mis-judging him... He wasn't
"The Plant Brain" yet at that point.
