Re: [AGA-sc] AGA Contest and Convention Question (fwd)

Cool, looks better than you thought -- no free field trip, but free hotel.

Nobody nominated. We pulled names out of a hat -- although, come to think of
it, yours was the only one in the hat.

Comps. With the AGA they usually work like this.

For those giving formal presentations (that is, those giving talks from a
podium, not folks showing off their prom outfits):

The keynote gets airfare, hotel room for 2 nights (unless you're Amano) and
convention registration and a banquet -- since the keynote usually speaks at
the banq it would take some stones not to comp the meal. FT is not comped but
sometimes they just sneak on the bus.

Other nonlocal speakers get hotel for two nights, convention registration, and
a banq plus a hearty handshake from the AGA President or his designated
representative for hearty handshaking.

Local speakers get convention registration and a banq, plus a friendly wave
from the AGA's 1st Clerk.

For those working on or involved with someone working on the convention:

Convention workers, their associates, relatives, lovers, groupies, lenders,
debtors, children (whether born in or out of wedlock), and stalkers all have to
pay their own way, with exceptions for Amano.

Remember, even if your a speaker and getting comped or reimbursed for your room
costs, doubling up on a room saves your roomie half the room cost ;-)

Room comp, or to be more accurate, room cost reimbursement, does *not* include
meals, room service, paid limo service, extra soap, pay-per-views, or "working
girls" although I think there are some exceptions made for Amano.

If you have the time, sure. Problem is that it sort of opens June
1st, or whenever TAG actually starts getting received by people,
whichever's latest. I suppose it could open without graphics and have
them added slowly.

We don't have a theme yet. Usually I get an idea for the theme based
on the previous year's live presentation at the convention and/or the
plans for this year. So in 2004 it was the whole "art gallery" thing.
Last year you invented the whole judge theme and I just ran with it (I
actually found that the most fun and elaborate theme we've done). Your
country-specific banner ads are still unused from last year, and I would
like to use them this year. Perhaps we could re-use the little flags in
the masthead as well.

Hmm, maybe we could riff on the Iron Aquascaper bit at the convention?

I don't remember who's fault that was, except that it was on the AGA side
of things, not the SFBAAPS folks.

I'll cc the board on this, and perhaps the guilty party will fess up. :)

I think this is the case. Scott will know for sure which stuff is comped,
but if it were me in your shoes, I would expect to get a free registration
and banquet, possibly a field trip as well.
