Ray's is a voice heard many places. ;-) If we have someone "permanent" to make the calls, we have a vendor/ad rep. for now, we just need someone that put out some charm and persuassion in a short time, even if it's not a long term commitment. I would have guessed that the problem with phoning the vendors is not that there are so many to call but that they need to be called so many times, at least until a relationship is established. If we look for contest sponsors, does anyone what to deal with goods as prizes? Unless we get them shipped to the convention for goodie bags instead, we're probably better off, logistically, doing the cash prizes like we finally did for 2005. Much easier to avoid delays, too. The goods aren't much value in auction, we don't usually lack for items but have too many and the last hour or two is a series 1 dollar winning bids. sh ----- Original Message ---- From: Cheryl Rogers <cheryl@wilstream.com> To: Aquatic Gardeners Association Board <aga-sc@thekrib.com> Sent: Saturday, June 3, 2006 2:59:19 PM Subject: Re: [AGA-sc] [Fwd: RE: The Aquatic Gardener ad submission deadline] Thoughts: BECAUSE the convention begging and the TAG ad begging are so closely timed right now, I'm okay with combining the begging, but I do not think it would be out of line to do a mail-out twice a year to potential advertisers with phone follow-ups. So I think we should beg for TAG ads again in the first quarter of 2007. (Honestly, I don't think Phil had time to do much in 2005 but e-mail the old stand-bys.) Assuming there is going to be a convention program, one of the perks could be an ad in the program as well as an ad in TAG. I think Scott's prices are fine, as an experiment to see what happens. Ray could also be bad publicity if crossed. Now might not be the time to cross Ray. Cheryl S.
