Re: [AGA-sc] unsent message to conheads

I love that SF club more everyday. In a just world, you could send that
message. I'll be glad when this convention and our dealings with the SF club
are over.

Subject: [AGA-sc] unsent message to conheads

Here's a message I'll never be able to send...yet another one...
----------------------------------------------------------------
It was just a warning about the field trip, and in this case, it was,
after all, my second e-mail on the subject. Nobody signed up from this
list after the first e-mail, except Kirsten and Jim. Now Jim's the
convention chair, but I would think that some of the folks here are
actually planning on attending. If not, why are they on this list?

I suspect that some are impression that they won't need to register for
the field trip and can just "tag along" at the last minute. But I have
been reminded by Leon that this cannot happen. There is a hard limit, and
once that limit is reached, that's it. I wasn't directing the warning to
folks registering for the convention, JUST the field trip.

Please also understand that these comments are partly based on previous
conventions in which (at first) every person peripherally involved assumed
they would be given free registration, banquet and field trip.

So which is going to be worse, sending a possibly-annoying e-mail early
on, or people having a nasty surprise later?

It's getting kind of hard to bit my tongue about the "amateurs in chat
room" and "having too much on one's plate". As I write, one of the two
kids has come into the computer room and is attempting to wrassle the
keyboard away. I'm not really supposed to have been involved in this
convention at all, you understand, let alone be a de facto whip. Larry
wasn't supposed to have been responsible for finding the actual hotel we
used, just doing a little negotiation at the end. Karen wasn't supposed
to have been responsible for locating and contacting all the speakers.
None of us were supposed to be handling vendor solicitations.
