If you change the by-laws, you have to refile with the state of Mass, and then, I belive that will trip having to refile status with the IRS.I don't think the original bylaws limited the number of Board Members, so we can add without changing bylaws. As for democracy, I submit that George Bush was elected twice ( well, sort of. Enough said).I further submit that it's unlikely to find candidates that are well known to a broad number of members and elections would likely result in a poor man's form of post-WWII Italian goverments, with a multitude of small popularity contests in competition. Actually, the Post-WWII Italian governments coalesced frequently and variously into different coalitions with some organization, albeit short-lived. For aquatic gardeners, I think things would be even less organized. And there would be no indication of how much any particular person would be willing to actually do.If, and I only say if, we were going to change things, I'd rather see Board positons having specific job/task assignments and then appointing folks based on their accepting the responsibility of the job/tasks.sh

Yes, although I do agree that Phil's Board nomination has merit, I think the number of Board members issue should be addressed first.
I also believe that the Board needs to be an elected position with term limits of some type. This way the membership will hopefully feel more connected to the organization and the Board positions will not be diluted as Erik mentioned.
I have brought this up before on list and off list with nearly all of you, I recall from previous discussions we have had that this will require a change in our by-laws.
Getting back to Phil, I did spend some time although brief discussing his future involvement in AGA. We did even talk about a possible Board position He was open to it but there was nothing committal. Has he expressed a specific interest in the Board position? That would be great if he is.
I did also speak with Ben Van Dither also. He will be a great add to the MCMC. I have also talked to Efren and he would be interested in being added to the MCM.
I agree with Karen, energy post-convention is still unusually high and we should take advantage of this to try to continue this by adding folks into the MCM. I also think we need to take a look at who is on the MCM and possibly remove some folks from there as well.
Regards,
Larry
