Chinese algae eaters only eat algae until they are about 1-1/2" long. Then they become primarily carniverous. Thier favorite foods are fins and scales. They usually do it at night, though. In an aquarium, they will take out a small fish in a single night, eating its tail all the way to the peduncle.
