Dave,

If this is the case, how come it doesn't happen with apisto's that we
remove the fry on. 

Sometimes I will remove the fry as soon as they are free swimming and
other times I let the parents raise the young to adulthood.  Both sets of
fry have spawned equally as well.  I have never done it with rams or past
2-3 generations though.
