Definitely take this to heart -- I kept 5 (IIRC) in a 20 gallon tank (1' x 2' footprint) for a short period. I didn't pay a lot of attention to them and the tank was heavily planted, so I didn't realize until too late that it was a bloodbath. Lost every one of them.
