Re: Apistogramma njisseni, cruzi, eunotus and cacatuoides

Hello Joel,

Whats a fellow UNYKA guy doing raising apistos? Glad to hear that you
are though!!

If you managed to raise killies, you have the right kind of water and
live foods necessary to raise apistos. Most like nice soft slightly
acidic water. The Cruzi, Eunotus and Cacatuoides can handle slightly
alkaline water, the Nijsenni on the other hand like the water really
soft and fairly acidic. I did best with these guys when i had pH of
less then 6.0 and really soft water.

Feed lots of live foods, they all love that. Frozen bloodworms, white
worms, daphnia, baby brine shrimp and occasional black worms, Oooops,
here comes a ton of dont feed them black worms, lol, but i did for
several years when i could get good worms from Howard. I dont use
black worms any more because of my convience. Not because they hurt my
fish. Never had that problem.

Most of the fish you mention will do fine in harem spawning situations
except for the Nijsenni. I found them to be strictly pairs only fish.
The odd fish out would get beaten very badly, even to death in most
situations, so go with pairs of Nijsenni.

Clean water, just like with killies, is a must for all apistos. They
dont care for poor water qualiity.

Joel, if you have any questions, you can always email me off list .
Always glad to talk apistos!!

John
