Hey all, My fabulous LFS (Albany Aquarium, in Albany, CA) has recently brought in a LOT of A. cacatuoides. I picked up 5 (for $25!, wonderfully) this weekend and put them in a heavily planted 35 hex. This tank is tall, and I'm wondering if its footprint is large enough to support the two males and three females that I think I have. These are wild-type cacatuoides, possibly even wild caught although I didn't ask. I'm basing the M/F ratio on red ocelli on the upper margin of the caudal fin of the "males"; these fish are approximately 1 1/4" SL, and also have 2-3 elongated spines at the leading edge of their dorsal fins. The "females" are smaller (<1" SL), heavily marked in black and showing a lot of yellow in the ventral area. They do not have the red ocelli of the males. Are these fish large enough to be sexed, and am I using the appropriate characteristics to sex them? I'm already seeing territoriality between the females, and I don't want a war to erupt when pairing takes place. Thanks, Sarah LeGates __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
