Listless Eunotus

I have a number of A. eunotus in a 48 gallon tank. About two weeks ago one
female disappeared shortly after losing her free-swimming fry. She
reappeared a couple days ago looking very pale and listless with what looks
to be a distended anal opening and absolutely no appetite. She tends to rest
near the water's surface in the roots of floating plants.

Yesterday my only male eunotus began to take on some of her characteristics,
with fins held close to his body and what looks to be imbalance when he's
not actively swimming.

Does anyone know what might have caused this? All the other fish (including
a second eunotus female and her 30 free-swimming fry) in the tank appear
unaffected and tests show that the water is satisfactory (no ammonia or
nitrites, ph of 6, hardness of 5 and a temperature of 76 degrees.)

At first I thought it was due to the second female's aggression towards the
first... but she's always been tolerant of the male and continues to be so I
don't think she's causing him stress.

Thank you for any insight that you may have,

Charles
