You could use an airline tube to do a small water change(about 10% per day).
This is an easy way to avoid sucking up fry. If the fry are eating bbs, then
it's your call when to remove parents, sooner the better IMO. For a night
light, you could use one of those 7 watt lamps that go on those plastic
"critter tanks", that shouldn't cause an algae problem.
