Re: R/O or DI...

Hi Al,
a couple of years ago I got me the Ion Exchange Units,
Kati & Ani from Pet Warehouse and I have to say,
I love 'em both !

My water change set up.
Water straight from the tab runs through an Eheim Dummy Canister, filled with
activated carbon and filter floss, then through Kation Exchange Unit and from
there through the
Ion Exchange Unit into a 40 G trash container.
The water you get has no KH & no GH and the PH is around 3.00.
It goes without saying that the water parameters have to be adjusted, because
the water
is purer then even distilled water and the taste is quite funny ! :-)
Anyway, every 400-600 gallons I recharge my units with
Muratic Acid (Home Depot-$2,00 a gallon) and caustic soda flakes ( 1 pound last
you forever !)

If you are a little bit handy and responsible (you are dealing with "light"
acids, so is vinegar ! )
Kati & Ani are definitely an alternative to expensive membrane exchanges, etc.

Don't use any units where you have to recharge with SALT !
They are worthless for our purpose!

I am aware that I have defend my position now against the 99 Billion Sold R/O
units,
but Kati & Any works for me and I can recommend them to you.
BTW, you have to get them both, the Ion Exchange Unit by itself will NOT do the
trick.
