American Cichlids I - Dwarf Cichlids - by Horst Linke & Dr. Wolfgang Staeck
Also (When the English version comes out)  Mergus Cichliden Atlas by Dr Uwe
Romer
And for picture references - Aqualog - Southamerican Cichlids II
Sorry I can't help you on the grindal worm culture but you could add frozen
blood worms to your food selection.
By the way, most of the time I found females to be more aggressive when
they're protecting eggs/fry.
