Re: apisto steel blue
I do not have my 'pair' any more. Lost them to a bacterial(?)
infection/bloom in my planted tank. Had the water clouded up for about a
week. AFter I cleard that up, the fish became ill and died shortly
thereafter. (maybe another indication of poor genetic stock) I had what I
had assumed was a female. She was much lighter and had a lot of the
characteristics that i would prescribe to a female fish. However, I never
observed any spawning behavior or had any luck with them in the short time i
had them.

The trick with Steel Blues is that females are almost
never shipped. This could be due to their lack of color, some genetic
>effect of >crossbreeding, or the temperature at which they are raised.
Or it could simply be that the breeder(s) want to maintain a corner on the
market. I've seen lots of these, owned a few, never yet seen a female.
Best,
Scott
