Hmm, I didn't do anything special. The first time i fed them well with live blackworms, this time they just got frozen bloodworms and live BBS once or twice a day. They are in a 10 gallon, sand bottom, kH and gH are unreadable by my AP test kit, TDS at 100, sponge filter, box filter running with fluval peat granules in it, pH is below 6 (need to get me a digital pH meter). Temp is 80 deg today, but it has fluctuated from 75 to 88 over the last month (unhooked heater and forgot to plug it back in, and we've had a heat wave). No dithers. Water changes once every couple weeks, last water change was a week ago.
