I recently returned from a collecting trip to
Bolivia. Had planned to return to Venezuela but things are a little too unstable
there.
We collected many different sites but used Trinidad
as a sort of base from which we traveled. We did make it as far as Magdelena
which was quite a trip. Absolutely the most wildlife I have seen on any of my
trips.
My primary targets were Apistos and we did well in
collecting at least 4 different species. We collected A. luelingi, A. staecki (I
think), A. linkei, and A. trifasciata. The trifasciata were both blue and red
tailed varieties. The red tailed is very pretty. The lower half of the caudal is
a bright blood red while the upper half is a more subdued red.
I did collect water parameters as well as GPS
measurements on all the sites so this can be compared with previous collection
data.
All the fish are doing well and most have already
spawned. Problem is, not enough tank room for all these fish.
