Hi Colin nice little fish. I bred them years ago and I didnt even know what they heck they were at the time. They are small little guys but very attractive. In order to help you I have to ask what are your water parameters? pH? KH? DH? Counductivity? etc give as much information as you can. I know many folks attribute egg eating to new parenthood and most people seem to feel that after a while this behavior will go away. I am not sure about that. I have a well that I use to breed my Apistos and the water comes out at pH 5.5 and a counductivity of 30 or less. To tell you when I have bred any wild Apisto I realy cant remeber a time they ate the eggs even the first time. it has happned very few times. I think as long as we provide a secure environment ( remember our little fish are heavily preyed upon) floating plants, java moss, lots of cover and the correct chemical environment we should be successfull. We also have to watch the DOC's if we have polluted water the eggs will not hatch and even if they do the parents very often eat them because of the DOC's. If we use our counductivity meter of coursew e can test for this pollution as it acclimates over time. So Colin look at what I have said and hopefully youll find the answer there. Feel free to ask any further questions. Good luck it's a very nice fish.
