Re: Hydra

I hear all this talk of fluke tabs, and other remedies
for Hydra. I for one have to just add a word of
caution. I don't like to use chemicals unless I have
to. Fluke tabs are an organo phosphate and work by
nervous system of a lesser life form such as many
parasites have that they are intended to kill.
Fluebendazole 5% is much safer but keep in mind it
will reduce the O2 in your tank significantly so
increase areation accordingly. Just my 2 cents but I
would go with salt. Its safe and in the 20 years of
keeping Apistos I have it has always been successful
in getting rid of hydra. So simple and 100% safe in my
experience. I would first try the safe method before
moving on to harsh chemicals such as organa phosphates
as Fluke tabs are. In my experience I am just always
against using harsh chemicals I rather go to something
safe and mild such as salt as a first alternative.
Others may disagree but thats ok. It just how I do
things, many folks like to jumpo to the medicine
cabinet for a cure but I think it's prudent to use
caution theres no telling what the long term effects
of something harsh as organo phosphates can be on our
fish. Anyway enough rambling good luck Tomoko
