mineral uptake

Hi all,
i must say that for having been breeding discus for quite a long time, this
hard water growth media was what was going around.
What Mike W. said also makes sens so, what if fish could both access to
their mineral needs by taking them from where they are available: the water
or/and the food? It would not be surprising that several path exist,
therefore giving more chance to the young fish to develop succesfully.
Does anyone know about any research done about this mineral uptake issue?
c you

Mike W. and all.................I agree with the question by Martha. I
don't have an opinion here, please understand that. It's just that I have
heard from people such as J. Wattley personally (I spent 4 wonderful hours
with Jack at his house one Sat. afternoon...just he and I), that as soon as
possible he gets the young discus away from the parents and starts the
process of increasing the hardness of the water because the young fry derive
a benefit from the additional calcium. Additionally, I've read it in
articles!

Just what I've heard folks......again I have no opinion here just curious
for some facts. I will say that I have so much respect for Mike W. that
what he said stopped me flat dead in my tracks!

This should be a fun discussion.....some learning going on!......great!
