Zack,
Are you saying that in Smaragd the ratio should lean more toward males?
Because my experience has been 1M & 3-4 females. Both Myself and Rich had
3-4 females come out with fry at the same time. When this would happen I
removed all the females except one,  and she took care all the fry.
