The link http://www.howe.k12.ok.us/~jimaskew/zophyla1.htm says that in 
Oklahoma they lay cysts in the fall and these hatch in the 
spring.  Apparently from spring to fall the hydra reproduce the way we 
observe them spreading in our tanks.
