By definition a population of a species is, "...
one species, occupying a defined area and usually
isolated to some degree from other similar groups"
(=populations). This is from "A dictionary of
ecology, evolution & systematics", Cambridge Univ.
Press. By this definition they will not interbreed
in nature without intervention because they are
isolated from other populations. In the aquarium
they will certainly cross with other populations
of A. agassizii - and many of the aggie-like forms
that may or may not be truly A. agassizii.
