Hi Victor,

This is always a compromise.  In my opinion, ours is too little at ~4".  
It is seriously difficult to clean. But if we gave it much more, then the
bottom rack would be wayyyy too low.  The other thing is that in our 
original design we had the lights recessed into the row above, and if you 
make the clearance too big, you lose lots of valuable light.  Our 
compromise on that is now we've got "reconditioned" shoplight fixtures 
that sit on the tanks but "plug" into the ballasts mounted on the rack 
itself.  They can be unplugged for tank cleaning, restoring some of the 
clearance we lost.
