Re: picutres of apisto habitats

Adam,

Other than Pete's sources few photos of apistos in
their natural habitat have been published. There
are probably 2 reasons for this: 1) the normal
habitat for many apistos is too shallow
(4-8"/10-20cm) to allow normal underwater
photography, and 2) many habitats have bottoms
that when disturbed become cloudy or the water is
naturally stained & reduces clarity - neither
conducive to good underwater photography. The book
"Erfolg mit Zwergcichliden" has photo of a female
in brood dress. Römers paper, "Einige Aspekte der
Mikrohabittwahl südamerikanischer
Zwergbuntabrsche" has a leaf litter picture, as
does Koslowski's new book, "Die Buntbarsche
Amerikas, Band 2".
