Re: Help with ID

Ghazanfar,

No, they are ot A. caetei, nor A. sp. Pebas either. Both of these species show
banding on the caudal fin. The flank color is disturbingly very similar to that
of the Bluehead/Steel-blue Apisto, but it is not as deep-bodied or laterally
compressed. In many respects it appears to be some form of A. taeniata, but it
is hard to say for sure. The bright blue color masks most of the diagnostic dark
markings. I would need to see this fish in its fright pattern, showing its dark
markings to be sure. Still, I do not believe that this is a wild form of apisto,
but a domestically 'enhanced' fish. Right now, based on what I can see, it is
either a color enhanced species of the resticulosa-complex or a cross between
the Bluehead & a resticulosa-complex fish. It obviously is different from the
Bluehead, which as a striped tail.
