Re: A. sp. Barbaroja & A. martini ID

Max,

Römer wrote: "Der Artname des hier neu beschriebenen Zwergbuntbarsches der
Gattung Apistogramma wird zu Ehren des aus Österreich stasmmenden Entdeckers
Martin Mortenthaler gewählt." (English translation: "The species name for this
newly described dwarf cichlid of the genus Apistogramma is chosen to honor the
Austrian expatriate discoverer, Martin Mortenthaler.")

This description was published in the April 2003 issue of das Aquarium (issue
406). Both the publisher, Werner Schmettkamp, & Dr. Römer were kind enough to
send me copies for the ASG library. This issue also has a nice article on
Hemichromis stellifer, along with photos of 2 other newly found undescribed
jewel fish. Schmettkamp also sent other recent issues with dwarf cichlids
articles - including one with a new Dicrossus species pictured in it. das
Aquarium is published by Birgit Schmettkamp, Verlag, that also publishes many
nice aquarium books & symposium volumes. Too bad they publish only in German
right now.
