Re: incas

Matt,

There are several new nijsseni-group species that have appeared in the past
year or so. Each species seems to have more than 1 name.

A. sp. Inca, which I originally called "A. sp. Hi-fin Nijsseni" when I
introduced the species in a program at the 2002 Greater Chicago Cichlid
Association convention, look like A. nijsseni with a highly extended &
serrated dorsal fin like A. sp. Breitbinden.

A. sp. Hifin "Panduro", or A. sp. Urias, was introduced in the US - along
with A. sp. Inca - in an article in TFH (Jan. 2003) by Oliver Lucanus. This
fish looks much like A. panduro with a slightly extended, serrated dorsal
fin (like that of A. macmasteri) and less red on the caudal fin.

The second "Hifin Nijsseni" was originally offered as A. sp. Inca, but is
actually more closely related to A. payaminonis. I believe that Mike Jacobs
sells it as A. cf. payaminonis. Oliver sells it as "Hifin Nijsseni". Since
the name was originally used for Inca, I think that there will be some
confusion. I suggest dropping this label. This fish looks like A. nijsseni,
but also shows some black patches below the lateral band in the caudal
peduncle area, like A. payaminonis. The dorsal fin is slightly elongated,
slightly serrated (like A. eunotus forms). Mike Jacob web site has photos
of this fish. I hope this helps.
