Regarding Apistogramma ambloplitoides (Fowler)
Try the book by Herbert Axelrod I believe its called
Exotic Tropical Fishes by TFH.
I have the insert in front of me.

Range: Rio Ucayali, Peru.
Habits: Usually peaceful, but may be aggressive when spawning.
Water conditions: Soft, slightly acid water. Temperature 75 to 80
degrees.
Size: 4 inches
Food Requirements: Live or frozen foods.
Color Variations: Body brownish with a violet overcast. Series of
vertical
bars on sides. Fins blueish with patterns of dark streaks.
