Pete and all.........The A. gibbeceps spawned in about 77-80 degree water and the first spawn is now sexing and it seems to be close to 50/50. pH.....5.8 hardness....30-40ppm calcium (translated from a microsiemen measure). The skewness Pete is refering to was with A. cacat. and I had 5-6 spawns and they were .......95% males. Temp......80 pH.....7.8 hardness.....180ppm calcium. Those were the days before I was using RO water. Since those days I have spawned....A. Hongsloi, A. borelli, A. gibbiceps, A. pieunesis (spelling???). A. sp."Smraged"(spelling) with the same general parameters as the A. gibbiceps and there has been no sex skewing........don't know which problem I solved but something was solved. Pete........could your discussion with Uwe have some bearing on why the last 3 spawns of my A. sp'Pandurini' have not been successful......too hot???? The temp in the room since she began laying eggs has been in the low to mid 80's (converted garage in Florida with no air conditioning!). Maybe when the temp. breaks we will have some fertility. I have not been able to see them spawn (to see if "he" has an idea of the birds and bees) but 3 times she has laid oh.....30-60 eggs just as red as a cherry, but to no avail. 3-4 days down the line they all are gone and fungused. the very first batch she laid I took them out and treated them like angel eggs........fungused...big time. Uwe (Pete...is Uwe still there?).....I had a gentleman tell me that A. agassizi will not inter breed succesfully....without kowing for sure I just said OK.......I wanted to tell him to shove it but I thought I would ask.....Pete, feel free to throw in an opinion if Uwe isn't around. His precise statement was..."If you think an aggie from Peru is going to breed with some aggie from Brazil, you're nuts." quote, quote!!! What do you think??? Have a good one..........jump in anyone!!! Mike Jacobs mfjacobs@geocities.com
