Heather,

Depending on the plant supplement, your hardness and and pH may not
move! There are two kinds of hardness: carbonate hardness (alkilinity
is a better term) and general hardness (GH). Alkilinity is the measurement
of carbonate ions in you water (CO3 and HCO3), which ONLY affect the
equilibrium pH of the water. GH is the measurement of Calcium and Magnesium
ions in the water (Ca and Mg).

If your plant supplement has Ca and Mg in it, it will increase the
general hardness. This may not be the issue, however. Some fish
are sensitive to the total dissolved solids (TDS) in the water, which
any plant supplement will increase. As far as I understand, most Apistos
can get by with just a low GH and you don't have to worry too much about
TDS except when you're breeding them.

You may want to control the MIME content of your messages, Heather.
I get a bunch of MIME encoding from you (see above stuff) which just
clutters your messages. You can turn off MIME encoding from an option
in the options menu.
