One suspicion on which I would like to hear some feedback. I wonder if
it is possible that if after spawning I keep the male and female
separate for too long (say, 6-8 weeks), often once back together it
takes a long time before the female lays eggs again. On the contrary, if
I separate them only for few weeks, the promptly spawn again once
re-united. Is this possible?
Dionigi ,
I have had good luck so far separating a male from a female and spawn.
In particular I had a nijsseni pair, where the female would always beat up
the male. So, I would remove him, let her grow out the spawn and then
put him back in (minus the kids) and then they would spawn again within
3 days and out he would come. Did this 6 or 7 times until I was a little
late pulling him back out one day and she killed him. I have also done this
pattern with a few other apistos and all turned out well. Now I am so
cramped for tank space though I may need to use Lisa's divider
approach, or live with smaller spawns.
