CITES means Commission on International Trade of Endangered (or Exotic, I've forgotten which) Species. It's used to regulate trade in wild species. There are three or four CITES lists. CITES I species are considered endangered (eg. the Cherry Barb!!) CITES II species are considered threatened (Bald Eagle) CITES III species are considered potentially threatened (Grey Wolf) Trade in these species reqires different levels of permits, etc. depending on which CITES level is involved.
