We leave the stocking in all the time. Peat will not cause the pH to
continue to drop but the continuous peat contact takes care of new water
from the water changes. The balled stocking is only about 2 1/2 inches
in diameter. About the time we move the fish the peat probably needs to
be replaced and so we do.We use the leg of the stocking. Tie a knot in
the leg, cut below the knot...cut again about 8 inches about the
knot...turn the stocking inside out over you hand, reach into your
bucket of wetted peat and grab a small handfull...reverse the stocking
over the peat and tie off with a second knot...way too easy.
We do this stocking thing with some Bettas, apistos and some killies.
Seems to work for us.
Take care,
Jim
